Image

Artist. Callum Simmons

Callum Simmons is a Manchester-born fine artist, illustrator and a graduate of the Graphic Communication course at Central Saint Martins, London. He is most known for his extensive exploration of subject, dimensionality, and colour.

Throughout 2016 and 2017, Simmons’ politically driven poster prints – featuring a suicidal Donald Trump and Boris Johnson – appeared in exhibitions, articles and graffitied on walls across the globe, adding to existing social commentaries of political unrest and corruption.

Simmons refuses to be categorised as another ‘political artist’; reflected in his more recent work that explores an obsession with colour. This period of work features shifting perspectives, moiré, viewer interaction and hard edge abstraction.

Artist. Ethan Lemon

Ethan Lemon creates large scale monochromatic portraits in public spaces using spray paint. His subjects are a mixture of well-known people and unknown people found whilst researching the history of his local area in South Manchester and his home town, Stoke on Trent.

Ethan’s work is mainly inspired by women activists of the last few centuries and aims to raise awareness of these lesser known heroes.

Being born and raised by a majority female family in Stoke on Trent, a former industrial giant in coal, pottery and steel, he finds many portraiture subjects from the archive of photos of this industrial era. Ethan likes to pay homage to the underrepresented women who were integral to these industries of our city's past. Ethan now resides in Manchester where he is equally inspired by the creatives and activists of the past. Since living in Manchester he has discovered how many influential historic women came from here and this has inspired him to tell the story of these people in his work.

Artist. Jeff Henriquez

A full-time artist known for combining photo realism with elements of graffiti and street art culture. He received his BA in art in 1999 from Bradford College in Bradford, MA. Since 2000, Jeff has been further developing and mastering his painting techniques, while delving into a wide range of mediums including ceramics, silk screening, tattooing, aerosol, & oils.

Jeff got his start in the gallery scene with huge monochrome portraits of the homeless and displaced. The emotion and pain captured in the faces of his subjects created strikingly dramatic and profound works that hold one's attention even from a distance. Successful showings in D.C. at The Museum of Contemporary Art and La Casa de la Cultura in Boston led to shows in Atlanta, GA, Saint Petersburg & Miami, FL and New York City. To date, Jeff has collectors from Canada, France and Russia.

His latest series depicts realistic paintings of the pedestrian New York landscape in a way that lets the viewer step into the landscape and wander around as if by one's self in the echo of the rare and fleeting quiet seconds in the city. In this body of work there are no people in the scenes. Only pigeons bringing stickers to surfaces used by street artists in their own anonymous pursuit of getting up in the streets. Stickers, tags, drips, throw ups, and wheat pastes in all their crinkled, torn and weathered glory are some of Jeff's favorite elements to add to his work.

Her style is consistently marked by a bold use of color design and advanced typography. Artist. Cekis

Artist Nelson Rivas, was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1976. Better known by his street name, Cekis, he began painting and creating graffiti on the streets in the early 1990s gaining notoriety for his vibrant murals. A young person in a nation emerging from a seventeen-year authoritarian military regime, Cekis considers himself part of the first generation of South American graffiti writers.

As part of the emerging artistic renaissance that followed, painting in public would continue to direct the trajectory of his career. In 2004, he left for Brooklyn, NYC and while there, several themes, including one surrounding the idea of “fences”, began to emerge through his work.

With some relevance to his newfound immigrant status, “fences” also largely paid homage to his identity as a graffiti writer; an identity where trespassing past and climbing over fences was all just par for the course. Both his studio and larger-scale works explore the tensions between man-made and natural laws, shining a light on both his Latin American and graffiti roots while reflecting the interconnectedness of the human experience.

Named by Complex Magazine as one of the 50 most influential street artists of all time, he has exhibited in galleries worldwide, while staying true to his first love, public mural projects. He has played a vital role in developing Chile’s street art scene, and his work continues to inspire young artists in Chile and around the world.

Beyond showing work worldwide, he also recently created a mural at Journal Square Station in Jersey City, NJ and has worked with Miami’s Museum of Graffiti on several projects. In 2022 he was featured in the street art documentary “Chile Style” by Pablo Aravena and he also received a grant from Downtown Brooklyn to paint 32 asphalt sites, for a project titled “Street Patterns.”    For Cekis, the core driving force is still creating public art. Not only does he consider it what defines him as an artist but among the most important work he’s done to date. And he’s not alone. His influence on the street art scene, both at home and globally, is undeniable.
