About the Event

The lack of female directors in the UK is well documented.  There have been various schemes over the years to encourage women into this role within the film industry, yet they are still very much in the minority.

Women in Film and TV (UK) is the leading membership organisation for women working in creative media in the UK and part of an international network of over 13,000 women. Members of the organisation come from a broad range of professions spanning the entire creative-media industry.

They host a variety of events throughout the year, present a prestigious awards ceremony every December and run a mid-career mentoring programme for women. They also host networking evenings, collaborate with industry bodies on research projects and lobby for women’s interests.

BAFTA winning Caroline Roberts-Cherry is the Chief Executive of Saffron Cherry and a resident of Didsbury. She recently produced the film King Lear, starring Don Warrington(originally performed live at The Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester) which was screened on BBC4 over Christmas in 2016.

Caroline also organises events in the North on behalf of Women in Film and TV – something which is much needed in the industry.

This event is supported by Manchester Film School and will be a fantastic showcase of work by Northern women over the last 4 decades as well as a valuable networking opportunity for those who are currently in the industry or who might be considering film and TV as a career.
