The Wilderness Adventure by Jennifer Williamson

Trudging through marshes, scraping through brambles

Ditches and hills, roots and tangles

Map in hand, ‘X’ marks the spot

Where the treasures lie, untouched, they forgot

Finding the way, comparing the landscape

to the trails on the map and shouting “we’re here!”

Far away from the spot of the treasure

Cutlass in hand, marching at leisure

Patch on eye and parrot on shoulder

Founding new land, exploring, like soldiers

Adrenaline pumping as they charge down hills,

Resting in the shade of willow trees

Scavenging berries and honey from bees

Looking lost as they set off by the shore

“Hang on a second, we’ve been here before.”

Then, “Where’s the map?”

“I’ve lost it somehow.”

“We’ll have to make do.” and on they plough

A pleasant aroma wafts in the distance

“Let’s resume after lunch.”

Then they charge up the garden and back to the kitchen.
