Acclaimed music therapy charity, Nordoff Robbins, has benefited to the tune of £3,240 – thanks to a special collaboration between Montrose Properties and this year’s Didsbury Arts Festival.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2011, property management and letting agency, Montrose, sponsored a unique art exhibition as well as a classical concert – featuring world famous pianists Kathryn Stott and Nelson Goerner, along with classical guitar duo The Katona Twins, principal oboist of Manchester Camerata Rachael Clegg and soprano Jill Taylor – as part of this year’s cultural festivities.
Jen Wildblood, who with husband Rob owns the well known agency on Lapwing Lane, came up with the novel and quirky idea of turning the front doors of some of their local properties into works of art.
Local artists Dan Mozley and Ben Williams set about creating eye catching portraits of some of Manchester’s most famous celebrities – ranging from Mick Hucknall and ‘Badly Drawn Boy’, Damon Gough – through to renowned author Anthony Burgess, of ‘A Clockwork Orange ‘ fame.
Other door art included images of ‘Bad Cat’ by artist Tracy McGuiness Kelly and Ofilli and Lowry inspired pieces by pupils from Parrs Wood High School.
Montrose also turned over its office reception area into an Art for Sale exhibition showing work by local artists including Cheryl Acton, Steve Williams and Michael Dunbabin.
And finally, to capture the essence of this week-long series of artistic events, fine art photographer Pete Kelly pictured each of the doors and transformed them into a stunning photo montage – which Montrose and the Didsbury Arts Festival organisers auctioned off at the close of the week – raising £300 for that piece alone.
The sale of the photo montage, sales of tickets to the Kathryn Stott, Nelson Goerner and friends concert and Montrose sponsorship raised a total of £3,240 – which was presented to music therapist David Robinson from Nordoff Robbins, who said that the money would help the charity to continue its work in helping to enrich and transform the lives of vulnerable children and adults, through specialist musical services.
Jen Wildblood hailed Montrose’s involvement as a “most rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable experience”
“We are so glad that we got involved with Festival Director Maria Stripling and her team in what proved to be a very memorable and fitting way to celebrate our milestone of 30 years of working with and supplying specialist property advice to the local community in Didsbury and its surrounding areas.”
Festival trustee and performer in the Nordoff Robbins charity concert Jill Taylor added:” Montrose’s sponsorship, and the active involvement of their full team was of enormous benefit and gave us extra resources to both raise funds and help enhance the many other activities and events staged throughout the week.
“The door art became a real talking point and certainly helped to raise the profile of the Festival this year.”
