Didsbury to Show it’s Got Talent. Entries wanted now!
25 May 2011
Move over Hoff and Holden! Didsbury is about to reveal its own bumper crop of home-grown talent!
Back by popular demand, Didsbury’s Got Talent promises to be a highlight of Didsbury Arts Festival 2011. All that’s needed now are performers!
If you can sing, dance or make people laugh, the talent show’s organisers are waiting to hear from you. Other variety acts, such as juggling, ventriloquism or magic, will also be welcomed with open arms.
Fifteen finalists entertained a 300-strong audience at Ivy Manchester Church, on Barlow Moor Road, Didsbury, when the event was last held as part of DAF 2009. An illustrious line-up of judges included actor and comedian John Thomson and journalist and presenter Michelle Eagleton. The winning performance came from 19-year-old R&B singer, Judith Ude.
Now forced to look for a bigger venue, the show’s organisers, Ivy Manchester, have joined up with Parrs Wood High School, where this year’s final will be held. Taking place on Saturday 1 October, Didsbury’s Got Talent will provide the grand finale to a week-long celebration of the arts which has become an annual fixture on the local calendar since DAF was launched two years ago.
Debra Green, Pastor at Ivy Manchester Church, said: ‘Didsbury’s Got Talent 2009 was a joy to organise. It was fantastic to see a packed church with standing room only. For 2011 we’ve moved to Parrs Wood High School, so we don’t have to turn anyone away.
‘The talent was exceptional last time, but we hope for an even higher standard this year. So, get your act together and come down to the auditions!’
The deadline for competition entries is 31 July with auditions being held in September. All queries to: admin@ivymanchester.org
