Jackie Kay was born and brought up in Scotland. Her most recent collection of short stories, ‘Wish I Was Here’, won the Decibel British Book Award. She has won the Guardian Fiction Prize for her novel ‘Trumpet’. She lives in Manchester with her son and is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle. Her memoir, about finding her Nigerian father, ‘Red Dust Road’, was published by Picador last June, and has just won the non-fiction category of the Scottish Book Awards. Her new book of poems ‘Fiere’ has just been published by Picador this year.
